My guess is that this is the kernel 3.19.0-32-generic/intel skylake card conflict. I've tried everything I can find online and no useful results. I can get a "Dummy Device" to show up or, if I allow the machine to hibernate, it comes up with three "HDMI Display Port (with Audio) selections, none of which play sounds. I never saw them before the sound disappeared.
I've updated to the latest ALSA driver, I've done the "sudo alsa force-reload" and rebooted to no avail.
alsamixer sees the card and identifies it correctly but I can't change the settings which are all set at zero.
Has anyone got any suggestions? I cannot figure out why the sound suddenly stopped.
Has anyone got anything else to try? I'm considering rolling the kernel back to a previous version. If that fails I'll reinstall with a an older version of mint.
