[SOLVED] Linux Mint 18 - Mic Not Working

This is Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon 64bit on a Macbook Air. The mic on LM 17.3 on the same computer worked fine. But after a fresh install of LM 18 Cinnamon, the mic no longer works.

I've tried essentially all of the recommendations and I'm stuck with a mic that won't work. Maybe I'm missing something. I have tinkered with Pulse Audio Volume Control and still nothing. When I go to Sound -> Input, this is what I see. Whether I click on the Built In Mic or wireless Headset, I am unable to change the volume controls since the slider is not functional at all, and no input is recognized on the Input Level.

Have you tried turn OFF lock channels together (the little padlock) , check "Set as fallback" and exit in Pulse Audio Volume Control?

Yeah and I tried it again just in case. It's still the same outcome. It's pretty bizarre and I think there has to be a pretty simple solution to this but I can't put my finger on it...

Any other ideas? Mic is still not working, which makes it impossible to have conference calls when I need to. Thanks in advance!

delete everything in .config/pulse (except presets folder if you have one) run pulseaudio -k in Terminal, reboot and try again. sometimes unplugging and plugging back in kickstarts it.

Also deleting .pulse and .pulse-cookie helped me.
