Subwoofer on Lenovo computer: how to get it to work?

I go to System Settings > Sound and I see that there's a slider for subwoofer, but it's greyed out.

I found another post from 2012 on this forum in which a guy had the same problem, but his solution didn't work for me.

It's not a big deal, but it would be kind of nice to use it.

And, because I know one of you will ask, here's this:

honestly i have the same issue. installed Mint 18.1, everything is working flawlessly, yet the subwoofer doesn't work at all on my Lenovo Y50... even in the sounds settings, i can't tweak the subwoofer level. Something's off, i have no idea what it is.

did you get to solve this issue from your end?

No, I didn't. It's not that big of a deal, but I'd like to at least have it working to play with.

Same problem here. Only to of supposedly 5 speakers work, witch is no huge deal, but it would be kinda nice to have it working.

I don't use subs, but a quick google suggested a couple of options:

edit /etc/pulse/default.pa and add this line at the end:

load-module module-combine channels=6 channel_map=front-left,front-right,rear-left,rear-right,front-center,lfe

or otherwise, this looked pretty promising...

FINALLY!!!!! After doing some reading and weaving of solutions, I got mine

So ... Who wants subwoofer sound ? It's so freaking totally worth it!

Before starting, please note that these are the ONLY steps required.

Install alsa-tools-gui
Code:

sudo apt-get install alsa-tools-gui

Access Jack retasking
Code:

hdajackretask

Select the Realtek ALC663 Codec
Check the "unconnected pins" option

Go down to pin with id: 0x16 and check "override"
Set it to "Internal speaker (LFE)"

This is nicely concealed in the following link on asus for arch

click on "Apply now"

Don't close jack retasking


Open sound settings to make sure that the mode(not play sound through) of your sound is "Analog Surround 4.0 Output" seen in the following

over on the ubuntu forums... here
