SOUND suddenly stops working (Linux Mint 18 Sarah 64)

Post by Fayre »

Hiya,

Hopefully you can help me out with my sound problems. My sound (audio output) suddenly stops working in the middle of listening to a podcast for example, or watching a video. I am running Sarah 18 Cinnamon 64 bit.

I have not accidentally muted the sound, in fact this usually happens when I'm not even using the computer except for listening to something whilst it sits on my desk. I have tried to troubleshoot this and looked through forum posts to no avail. The first time I troubleshot it when I ran pactl list sinks the Sink said SUSPENDED, but running the command again produces the following:

Code: Select all

~ $ pactl list sinks
Sink #0

This problem is usually resolved by restarting the computer, sometimes it takes a couple restarts to fix the sound again. But it is a huge hassle and means I have to stop and save everything I might be doing.

Any insights much appreciated! Cheers

Hello I'm experiencing the same problem (may be after an update), but it's on Ubuntu 14.04.

Did you solve the problem ? If yes how ?
Thank you.
Currently on Linux Mint Xfce 21 64 bits + Mint Cinnamon 21 for testing + Ubuntu 22.04 for testing.

Try deleting the files in ~/.config/pulse/ then run pulseaudio -k in the terminal.
