No sound on Acer Aspire V Nitro laptop [Solved]

Dear All,

after a clean install of the latest version of Linux Mint on mentioned laptop, only a single built-in speaker is working (all speakers are working normally under Windows 10). Removed Windows and did a clean install of Linux mint. Still, only the Front Right Speaker is working.

I read several sound troubleshooting guides, installed Alsamixer and Pavucontrol, but to no avail.

Under the configuration tab of Pavucontrol it shows: profile Built-in audio -- Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output (unplugged).

With Alsamixer I see three slides when choosing 1 HDA Intel HDMI: S/PDIF , S/PDIF 1, S/PDIF 2 ---> All slides set on 00. I am not able to move them up.

Removing and re-installing Alsamixer and Pavucontrol has no effect.

Help in this matter will be truly appreciated.

I suppose that you have the same problem than I had with HP Compaq

The fix is to install alsa-tools-gui and deactive Analog Jack output

sudo apt-get install alsa-tools-gui

If that does not work, you can make a /etc/asound.conf file and choose default output.

aplay -l

An example about the file

You can test the output using command

aplay -D plughw:0,0 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav

Reboot after making the file.

The above directions solved the problem.

After installing als-tools-gui

I was struggling with this topic for a long time (reading up, removed linux-windows duo-boot, considering re-installing windows etc. or giving up on this laptop, and getting frustrated in the process).

Help! I tried flowing these directions and now Linux does not register me as having a sound card installed at all. I can't figure out how to undo this. Needless to say I still have no sound.
