USB sound audio not detected by alsa

Post by Solid Valky » Tue May 23, 2017 7:24 pm

Early enthusiastic newbie here!
I am using an M2N68-LA motherboard with Integrated Realtek ALC888S Audio, and I am getting no sound at all. Currently on Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon 64 bit.
I have enabled and disabled the integrated audio through the system BIOS without success, and the sound settings just say Dummy Output.
inxi -Fxz gives me:
System: Host: Chariot Kernel: 4.4.0-53-generic x86_64 (64 bit gcc: 5.4.0)

And the only reference to audio that lshw gives me is:
description: Audio device
product: USB Audio Device
vendor: C-Media Electronics Inc.
physical id: 3
bus info: usb@2:3
version: 1.00
capabilities: usb-1.10 audio-control
configuration: driver=usbhid maxpower=100mA speed=12Mbit/s

Which is for the Sabrent USB audio adapter I tried to use as a workaround, as I strongly suspect my integrated audio is no good at this point.
I am still unable to get sound with only the dummy output option showing up in my sound settings despite the attempted workaround.

aplay: device_list:268: no soundcards found...

sudo alsa force-reload gives me:
Unloading ALSA sound driver modules: (none loaded).
Loading ALSA sound driver modules: (none to reload).

Any ideas? And thank you so much for reading my long post.

I have discovered if I boot from the live DVD it is detected appropriately.

Code: Select all

 uname - r
will give kernel version. Please install same version on DVD as on installation media.
Or try installing 4.8.x version.. 4.8 kernels are LTS
If I have helped you solve a problem, please add [SOLVED] to your first post title, it helps other users looking for help, and keeps the forum clean.
I am using Mint 19 Cinnamon 64 bit with AMD A8/7410 processor . Memory 8GB
