Sound control issue

Postby pomchip » Mon Jun 19, 2017 1:38 pm

I have installed Linux Mint 18.1 Cinammon on a DELL latitude 7280 laptop in dual boot with windows 10. It was my first time using with Linux Mint and I am super impressed by how easy the whole experience was. That being said... the sound and sound control work fine in Windows but I have several issues in Linux Mint:
1- the sound does not always work after the system boots
2- when the sound works upon boot, turning the sound up or down using either the graphical interface or the keyboard function keys has no effect on how loud the sound actually is;
3- however, the sound turns off if the sound level is set to 0 or when I press the the mute key.

I would appreciate any advise to resolve the problem and will gladly provide any additional information / settings that would be required.

Thank you

[note: I corrected the version of Mint that I have installed. Initial version was the wrong one]

It was my first time using with Linux Mint ..

You do know that you are running the BETA version of Mint 18.2, right? Not a good idea for your first time using Mint.
The BETA issues and problems need to be reported in the comments section of the Release Announcement blog.

Sorry, I mistyped. I have installed Linux Mint 18.1 Cinammon.

after further testing, I loose sounds in both Windows and Linux every time I restart from Linux. The only way to get it back is to shut down the computer and boot again to Windows. Booting to Linux Mint does not fix the sound.

My problem of sound control appears to be resolved with the update to the 4.4.0-81-generic kernel.
