[Solved] No Sound (Card Recognized)

Installed Mint 18.2 64bit (Cinnamon) a little while ago, and couldn't get the sound working. Just returned to it today, and again, no sound. I've gone searching here and all over looking for a solution but nothing has worked (the card itself is recognized, have installed audio control things and nothing is muted, no updates did anything, etc). When sound is supposed to be playing, the bar moves, but I don't actually hear anything. Really not sure what the problem is, though I'm pretty new to this myself. Any help is appreciated!

Update? By plugging my headphones into a USB microphone I have, I was able to get sound. Which means it's related to my sound card, I guess, but it can't be a problem with the card itself because it works fine on my other boot. Is there any way this can be fixed? It worked in the past with previous versions of Mint, so I really don't know what's wrong.

It looks like you have two sound cards. Try disabling the one you don't use:

Sorry for the late response! I looked at my BIOS but the card in question wasn't listed, because aside from the one I use, the one that (I assume) is messing things up is the HDMI on my graphics card. I disabled the actual on-board sound long ago, so that wouldn't affect it. I tried a tutorial elsewhere for blacklisting the driver, but it didn't help, so I have no idea how else to disable it.

Try this:

In the terminal (use copy/paste):

gksudo xed /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Now a text file is being opened. In that text file, add the following text block, at the end of the existing text (use copy/paste):

blacklist snd_hda_intel

Save the modified text file and close it.

Reboot your computer.

I did exactly as you said, step by step, and rebooted, but it's still silent. Not only that, but when I ran the command for the system information again, the HDMI still came up under sound cards. Is there another way to get rid of this?
