No audio from HDA NVIDIA stereo (5.1 channel)

Post by kevad » Mon Dec 25, 2017 10:14 am

Hello,

I have recently done a fresh install of Sylvia on my gaming rig and found the sound drivers to be behaving erratically. I have a 5.1 speaker system (Logitech X-530) that at first got detected correctly and were fine. Later I inserted my headphones for a while and from then on, I could never restore back the volume to all of my speakers... only the front middle speaker works, if I select "HD Audio Generic Analog Stereo" in the pulseaudio volume control and selecting "HDA NVIDIA Digital Stero (HDMI3)" yields no sound.

FWIW, I have re-installed alsa, pulseaudio and gnome-alsamixer but to no avail. Also, I can't seem to add the volume control applet back to the panel. (adding 'notification-applet' to the panel, or 'xfce4-volumed' didn't work). Any help would be gladly appreciated. :(

I found the fix for the output from speakers. I have 6 audio ports and I have inserted my jacks in the wrong sockets (behind the dark corner of my desk)....stupid me. Apologies for the confusion. I reinstalled my OS as well and got my sound applet back. But I would still like to know how to get it back in a clean way. :)

cheers
