[solved] need help getting rackarrack and jack to work on Mint KDE

Post by wutsinterweb »

I can't find where I got my answers last time and I want to get rackarrack working with jack audio in my Mint KDE 18.3. I don't know how to set up the ppa and install jack and how to get it all working. I am using my brother in laws USB sound card device with guitar jack built in.

I've been using Mint for over 4 years, but I'm still a slow learner. I have a website: https://pickfetish.com. It is dedicated to guitar/instrument picks.

Hello,

I have linuxmint 17.3, however, I believe what works for me will work for 18.3, too. I would add the KXstudio repo. This site: http://kxstudio.linuxaudio.org/Repositories should help to do so. After that I would
suggest to use Cadence and setup Jack with your snd devices. You can get help at linuxmusicians.com, as well. If you need more help there are some other audio posts in this forum if you do a search.

Good fortune.

Ok, spent all day yesterday trying things and what was suggested here. Finally succeeded but NOT with the Beringer sound card. I'm not on my laptop where I can look, see, and post what I did with my settings but: I ended up not using Patchage, which I couldn't seem to get to allow to make the right connections, and instead used QjackCTL and it took me forever to realize that I had to get the right "connect" pseudo patch cord connections and that Patchbay didn't seem to do anything. I also had to find a mixer for Alsa that let me reverse/swap mic inputs and left/right channels. My on board sound of my laptop, a Lenovo G580 worked once I got the right brew of all those things, one problem was eliminating the computer case mic which was causing feedback, horrible feedback.

Interestingly, only Patchage works for me on my desktop.

I don't normally like to insult or criticize developers, but neither item, nor Rackarrack have adequate documentation, figuring out what different things are was way too much of a hassle. I guess some Dev's are not good communicators. Took 2 days messing around.

I'm going to label this "solved" but really the core to the problem was not solved, having to find a mixer that would work and swap channels, figure out without documentation how to use apps without still knowing what all happened and what things mean and do doesn't leave me satisfied. I'm not a coder yet, but if I were, I'd be working with people to document how things work and what they do.
