No audio over HDMI (AMD APU Bristol Ridge)

Post by kypec » Sun Jan 21, 2018 2:38 pm

Hello guys,

I´ve built new HTPC with AMD A8-9600 and installed Mint 18.3 Sylvia 64-bit Cinnamon onto it. I have it connected to my Samsung TV via HDMI cable. Video works fine but I can´t get any audio to be heard. I have searched this as well as other Linux forums and tried various solutions but so far nothing worked for me, TV speakers remain silent.
Below is my system info:

I have also installed pavucontrol and even added GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash radeon.audio=1" option to startup config file. ALSA command aplay -l reveals the following information:

Code: Select all

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: HDMI [HDA ATI HDMI], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

card 1: Generic [HD-Audio Generic], device 1: ALC892 Digital [ALC892 Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1

I have tried each combination of aplay -D plughw:0,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav for card 0 and devices 3,7,8 but nothing produced any sound either.

There are attached screenshots from Sound settings and PulseAudio which all seem correct to me...
Please give me some suggestions what else should I try because I´m really stuck and have no idea what could be the problem with my configuration, thanks.

Hi, I am also having this problem with AMD A12-9800E and Linux Mint 18.2.
I have tried the steps above mentioned by the OP. Also tried disabling the onboard sound in the BIOS so there is only one audio output detected in Mint, the HDMI output.
Any help would be appreciated.

Install alsa-tools-gui and deactive some outputs.

Code: Select all

apt install alsa-tools-gui

Code: Select all
