Hey guys!
I just installed Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon 64-bit and i have no sound at all.
I checked the sounds settings to be sure nothing was muted and i can't even change my output device. There's also nothing in the output profile that works.
I am connected with a HDMI cable on a smart TV, if this helps.
I hope someone can help me fix this...i'm new to Linux so maybe there's just something i didn't think of.
Here are my system and audio information:

Re: Fresh install, no sound...
Open a terminal an run the following to reinstall some audio-related packages, when prompted type in your password.:
Install alsamixer:
Run alsamixer in a terminal by typing "alsamixer" (without quotation marks), enter:
Press F6 and in the menu choose your audio card.
When it's done, check if you get the sound.
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install --reinstall alsa-base pulseaudio pavucontrol
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install alsamixer
Press F6 and in the menu choose your audio card.
When it's done, check if you get the sound.
Re: Fresh install, no sound...
go to
.config/pulse/
folder in the home directory, delete everything in that folder and reboot-

Re: Fresh install, no sound...
Fresh intall 18.3 cinnamon yesterday.
Hdmi display port won't work properly. Sound seem's to be high pitched with no reason at all.
Using spdif out working very well.
My mint iso is 2 month aged so possibly pulse audio get major updates since.
triying ~/ sudo apt-get upgrade pulseaudio
Problem solved
No need to change Alsa and Lorraine at all
