Machine: Lenovo-G50, 4 Gb RAM, duall booting Windows 10, defaulting to int 18.3
Last night, I was transferring some directories between two external HDDs. I was listening to a video on You Tube. When I removed the headphone, I no longer have sound from the machine.
Neither the Media Player, nor VLC has any sound ether.
I have done: warm boot, cold boot, boot between Windows and back to linux ... nothing. I checked: "mute" is OFF. I'm pretty sure that I do have sound in Windows, so this does not seem to be a hardware problem.
Is this a new bug in Mint? Your assistance getting sound support would be appreciated.
TIA, respectfully.
Latest updates installed Mint 18.3 now NO SOUND

...can you try renaming the .config/pulse folder to .config/pulse.old & reboot?

Many thanks!... that did it. Perhaps Mint should have a simple startup sound like
Windows?I went here to test that sound is working:
