SOLVED: after a recent update the mate volume control doesnt work as expected
After I had an update (around 4-4-2018) The mate-volume-control output works different.
At this update an extra output (line) was added. (i am using linux mint 18 with the mate desktop 1.16.2).
My computer is a HP elitebook 840 with a slim dockingstation type 2013.
In the old set up there where two outputs (laptop)speaker and headphones If you selected headphones you also activated the line out on the docking station and the desktopspeackers would go mute.
In the new setup if you select ¨headphones¨ the speakers and the lineout from the dockingstation are swtched of.
If you select ¨speacker¨ the line out and the headphones are switched of
If you select ¨line¨ the headphones are switched of and the speacker will still be on half the volume and the line out from the docking station also has half the volume (compared to before the update).
any help?

delete
.config/pulse
and rebootRe: after a recent update the mate volume control doesnt work as expected
Actually I'd rename it to pulse_BAK or similar in case that's not the problem.

I have to correct myself.
When chosing speaker or line both speaker and line are engaged.
When chosing headphones speaker and line is switched off.
It seems that the dockingstation line out is now connected to the speakers where in the previous version line out was connected to headphones.
This is the case in mate and cinnamon

I had installed debian 9.4. In debian it works as expected.
Line-out from the dockingstation is activated at the same time as the headphones.

It seems to be a kernel problem that was solved in kernel 4.10.038 generic but came back in kernel 4.13.
How can i get kernel 4.10 to boot as default and avoid loading kernel 4.13?

Re: after a recent update the mate volume control doesnt work as expected
Problem solved.
I logged in using the advanced login in the grub menu and selected kernel 4.10.038 generic.
After that I removed the 4.13 kernel
Before you do that be sure on which partition your bootpartition is.
I did it with the following commands (in a terminal):
sudo apt-get remove "linux-headers-4.13*"
and
sudo apt-get remove "linux-image-4.13*"
After this I got the error that grub was not installed and I reinstalled grub2
Unfortunately I can not upgrade my kernel for a while.
Also after testing Debian my startup time went from 45 seconds to more than 105 seconds !!!
Maybe this has something to do with the fact that Debian made a new home directory for me (/home/user), and put my original homedirectory in /home/@home/user.
So I have a new problem!
