No sound for my user

Post by Judge »

Hi everyone!

I have a very strange issue: My user does not have any sound device available but others do. I cannot figure out why.

My device is a Dell Latitude E7470 notebook; lspci shows this (audio-related):

Code: Select all

00:1f.3 Audio device: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-LP HD Audio (rev 21)
Subsystem: Dell Sunrise Point-LP HD Audio
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 32, IRQ 131
	Memory at e1248000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
	Memory at e1220000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K]
Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 3
	Capabilities: [60] MSI: Enable+ Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit+
	Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel
	Kernel modules: snd_hda_intel, snd_soc_skl
I'm using "Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia" with Cinnamon.

I just created another user named "testuser" on the same machine. When I login as this user, everything works; the sound Device shows fine:

Sound is also plying.

This looks like this for my real user:
No_devices.jpg
No sound is playing, no matter if it's from any Video or Sound - file or from the Browsers when I'm trying to listen to Deezer or similar.

These are the groups the users are in:

Code: Select all

mrichter ~ # groups mrichter
mrichter : mrichter adm cdrom sudo dip plugdev lpadmin sambashare docker
mrichter ~ # groups testuser
testuser : testuser
mrichter ~ #
Can anybody help me please? I really need sound, since I have to do a lot of video conferencing and watch tutorials.

If no to Pjotr's question, delete everything in /home/mrichter/.config/pulse/ then reboot and test.
