External sound card advice - DJ Mixing using MIXXX

Post by JasonSpinney »

I'm trying my hand at music mixing using MIXXX on MINT 18.3.
I need to get the sound to split between speaker output and headphones output for cueing and beat matching purposes.
I have bought an external 7.1 sound card - don't think it's compatible driver wise so no matter what I do, I get both decks in both channels in phones and speakers.

Can anyone suggest an external sound card that is compatible with MINT, will split the channels as per the headphones and master button on MIXXX and so will allow isolation of each deck whilst I'm getting the beats matched? Do I just need a splitter cable? Help very much appreciated.

Why don't you post what make/model sound card?

You also need to post more info ... you should always do this when asking support questions ... copy/paste this to the terminal and copy/paste the text output here:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
Also plug in the external card, which I'm assuming is USB, and do the same thing with this:

Code: Select all

lsusb
I've never used mixxx and this is the first time I've seen it mentioned here AFAIK. Did you istall it from standard repos or did you add a ppa? If the latter, if you have trouble with ppa software for which there's a repo version, uninstall the program, remove the ppa from your sources list, and reinstall.

Rob Hi, Thanks for reply. I'm not using the external card now, gave up. Hoping to get a DJ controller that MIXXX advises will work with their software - Numark.
MIXXX is from the official MINT software store. Appreciate your time but not sure there's much to do really.
