[SOLVED] desktop freezing when skipping video

I've searched on google but I didn't found anything. I don't even know what could be the problem, but my OS starts freezing when I watch higher quality videos when I try to skip to a part of the video. Then even if I close the player my OS is freezing... when you move the mouse it just jumps when it moves opening any application or even a browser takes ages and the only thing I can do is reboot from the terminal. This happens in VLC and the default video player.

I really can't figure this out and it doesn't even help if I kill -9 vlc after it freezes.

I use smplayer, rarely vlc and frankly I don't even remember what the default video player is. But assuming that's the right Nvidia driver (did you get it from Driver Manager?), I'd look at the settings for those media players and check if you have the right video output module selected.

I'd also try turning off precise seeking.

You may not have the right kernel version for your nvidia card, but there are others here who know a hell of a lot more about nvidia than I do.
