Rack Synth ( vcvrack ) - anyone using this in Mint ?

Post by Faust »

https://vcvrack.com
Is anyone using this in Linux Mint Cinnamon 17.3 ( or any other Mint version ) ?

The manual says :-
" Rack requires at least OpenGL 2.0 with the GL_EXT_framebuffer_object extension.
If your graphics card supports this, make sure you've installed the latest graphics drivers, and restart Rack.
"

I've got all that , but still no joy with running the GUI
Can someone please tell me if I've missed something obvious ( it happens :) ) ?

Edit : I should have mentioned that this is a superb modular synthesizer for any synth geeks out there :D
Think Hans Zimmer's electronic scores ( film music composer eg. Batman , Superman and others ) or Keith Emerson in the 70s

This one is very user-friendly compared to other software synths .... put your chosen modules into the rack then plug in your patch-cords
... just need to add imagination from the user ( oh yeah , that problem ! )

It runs beautifully on an old Windows 7 laptop so it's double irritating that I can't make it work in Mint

Well, it's an unfinished beta app with ONE developer, who doesn't have much of a clue which hardware it works on, so I'm not surprised the Linux version doesn't work. Did you read their FAQ?

I'd be looking for an alternative that runs properly in Linux.
