How to use Vestige for LMMS/SOLVED

Post by MiraclesHappen »

Hello everybody,
I've just started using Linux OS for the first time in my life yesterday so please bear with me...
I've created a lot of music with LMMS using Vestige in combination with synth 1 (I have a lot of presets .dll) with Windows 10. I followed the instructions
on LMMS official wiki ([https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=Working_with_VSTs][/https://lmms.io/wiki/index.php?title=Working_with_VSTs]) to use Vestige but this is what I got:

Terminal: sudo apt-get install lmms-vst-full
Error: Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package lmms-vst-full

Can anyone please tell me what am I doing wrong?

I found a website with a guy saying he can use both vestige and synth 1 with Linux ([http://oldmixtapes.blogspot.com/2010/11 ... ndows.html][/http://oldmixtapes.blogspot.com/2010/11 ... ndows.html]) but he doesn't say how to do it.

Thanks a lot in advance

It couldn't find it because it's not in the standard repos. Which Mint release are you using? In any case I think it's a bit more complex than you think to install. Always read instructions in full, and have a look at this too:

Hello Hoser Bob and thank you for helping.

I've read way too many websites and I'm getting a bit overwhelmed... I also had a look at the one you mentioned, however,
do you have the sudo I can type directly on the terminal? That would make my life much easier!

By the way, I discovered that in my Wine configuration the system is set to Windows XP while a lot of people talk about using Windows 7 in Wine cfg. How do I upgrade? Could that be related to the issue?
Thanks!

Hello!

As you've been asked above, which mint release are you using?
Also, which lmms version are you using?

Most common lmms version used seem to be 1.1.3, because it's readily available in the repositories, but the most stable currently are the latest 1.2.0 beta releases. It's available as AppImage (binary format) here: https://lmms.io/download/#linux
If you're not on the beta yet I strongly recommend that you upgrade first. Basically, you just download the AppImage and make it executable.
It may not take care of the actual issue, but there may be extra debug messages available on this release to help troubleshooting.

SOLVED! :D

Linux Mint 18.2 Cinnamon 64 (but in the update panel it says Sylvia!)
Update: I made a clear install of the system and now I have Linux Mint 18.3 Cinammon 64

This is a step by step method to get Vestige and synth 1 working with LMMS:

1. Make Sure you have Wine-stable installed (3.0.1) . Uninstall other versions first if you are upgrading!
2. Install the fonts Ttf-mscorefonts-installer from the Software Manager (this is to read your Vst names in Vestige)
3. Download kxstudio depository automatically for Debian/Ubuntu here:
[http://kxstudio.linuxaudio.org/Repositories]USE THE INSTALLER, DON'T DO IT MANUALLY TO AVOID UNMET DEPENDENCIES
4. Open the terminal:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install lmms-vst-full
5. At this stage, check the updater at the bottom right corner of your screen and update the files!
6. Download Synth 1
[http://www.geocities.jp/daichi1969/softsynth/]
7. Run the .exe files contained in the synth 1 folder with Wine. This will automatically create a folder named VST, pay attention to which drive is located
8. Move your vst bank (even zipped is ok) to the folder named VST created by Wine
9. Open LMMS, don't bother configuring the Edit Menu, it doesn't matter.
10. Open the Instrument Plugin and you'll see Vestige smiling at you
11. Drag it into the Song Editor or the Beat/Bassline Editor, double click on it
12. click the folder next to no VST plugin loaded and navigate to where you installed Synth 1
13. Select Synth 1 VST.dll . This will bring up the Synth 1 VSTi
14. Click opt (under write) at the bottom right
15. Navigate to your VST bank which must be contained in the VST folder created by WINE (I know I said before but it's important).

That's it, you are done and ready to play!

Save your work often because it may crash occasionally!

Dagon, I apologize for not replying to you right away, I thought I would receive a notification via email by default but that didn't happen so I didn't know someone had written here.
