How can I fix it?

WHat updates? Do you have high level updates selected in Update Manager? You may want to set it to "keep my computer safe". You could also try bringing up the grub bootloader menu when booting by holding down the Shift key. Then select the previous kernel and continue booting to see how that works.

i always update all levels, i don't see the point in keeping things held back unless it breaks things. but in order to find out you need to first break some things so you can figure out what broke. so what broke? what exactly is the issue with videos. open up a terminal type vlc space then drag a video in there and see if any extra output is coded. how are videos less then they were before?
check your synaptic package manager history, post what upgraded

Hello, here is the output:

VLC media player 2.2.2 Weatherwax (revision 2.2.2-0-g6259d80)

Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_r600.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_r600.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I haven't checked synaptic yet.

Thank you.

delete .config/vlc/ seems your vdpau is the issue but having no experience with ATI can't say what's what.

Hi. Deleting it didn't help. I don't know how to describe the quality. It's not smooth. Like it skips frames.
