Linux Mint 19 doesn't remember selected audio device

Post by rocketman221 »

I am running Linux Mint 19 Mate. I have two audio devices, the internal sound card and a usb headset with a CM108.
I select the internal sound card since I use it for just about everything. Every time I reboot, the usb headset gets selected. If I plug the headset in, it gets selected.
This is making me crazy. I was running Mint 18 and everything worked fine it would remember which card I selected.

I am currently running a script when I log in that uses pactl to select my internal sound card, but this should not be necessary.

Following the instructions at this site should help you set the default.

That does make the sound card default at boot, but it still switches to the usb headset when it's plugged in.
I only use the headset for certain programs, I don't want everything routed to it every time it gets plugged in.

I'm really not sure, but I think you might need hda-jack-retask for that which is part of alsa-tools-gui I believe.

I'm sure it's very normal/expected behavior for audio output to switch to a headset when it's plugged in.

Sorry I can't help any more than that. Maybe others will know of other ways to get you back to what you're used to.
