(solved?)bluetooth speakers connecting but not working
Hello
Until recently, I was happy with a JBL speaker connected to my linux 18.3 through bluetooth.
I tried (for video editing) to ugrade from sylvia 18.3 to Tara 19.
At first, everything worked fine.
At some time, all the sound system stopped working. Neither the external JBL speakers nor the internal ones produced any sound.
After a long walk through the forums, I succeeded to get the internal speaker working by updating etc/modprod/alsa base.conf, appending a line "options snd-hda-intel model=asus ".
But the Bluetooth device (although connected) still doesn't appear in the output tab of the "sound parameters windows". The bluetooth device is understood as an audio one because its "bluetooth connection windows" propose to go to the "sound parameters windows"
To make it clear, I attach a screeshot of these windows
Could anybody tell me what to try before I should make a new clean install of 18.3 again?

Bonjour getaway,
I saw your post in the other thread and almost mentioned that you got lucky with that model=asus. As long as it works, it's fine. But there may have been a better (or more correct) option to try.
Regarding bluetooth. I have zero experience with it. Having said that, I'd suggest seeing if PulseAudio Volume Control can help you get it working. You can install it via the Software Manager or in the terminal with

.Run the software either from the menu or in the terminal with

and check both the Configuration tab and the Output Devices tab for settings that that will probably say JBL ...

If all this doesn't help, paste back the results of

while something with sound is playing and the speaker is "connected" and we'll go from there.Re: bluetooth speakers connecting but not working
Bonjour MrEen
Merci de votre attention.
Yes, I have been writing on another thread, where I was believing to have fixed the internal speaker part of my probleme, thanks to your suggestion about modprod.
Yes it worked and may be I have been lucky because the option line I appended in alsa-base.conf hasn't been permanent: it has now disappeared and the speakers are still working fine?
For the BlueTooth speaker problem, which is still pending, I've already tried the pavucontrol pannel.
My speaker doesn't appear there neither.
What I don't understand is when you speak of configuration tab... There is no such a tab in my pavucontrol panel.. For the pacmd list-sinks, here is the result during Vivaldi is playing on my internal speakers:

The Configuration tab is to the right of Périphériques d'entrée. Either click twice on

or use your right arrow key.Re: bluetooth speakers connecting but not working
Try
Then connect to the BT headset and see if it shows in sound settings
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install pulseaudio-module-bluetooth
pactl load-module module-bluetooth-discover
Re: bluetooth speakers connecting but not working
To MrEen:
Shame on me not to have discovered that on my own
But I have no trace of my JBL Extrem speakers in the conf tab proposal. There is only a "Digital HDMI" options list.
To JeremyB:
I had already pulseaudio-module-bluetooth installed
And the pulseaudio module-bluetooth-discover looks to have problem to be loaded
Is it a clue???

Re: bluetooth speakers connecting but not working
I think after loading the module, you need to
killall pulseaudio
so it will restart and find the bluetooth stuff. If it doesn't restart by itself, pulseaudio -D
will do it.Re: bluetooth speakers connecting but not working
Hi MrEen
I've tried to killall and restart pulseaudio.
I've tried to unload module-bluetooth-discover then to reload it. It worked but changed nothing to my problem: JBL speakers appears in Bluetooth devices list but not on the audio system.
I don't know where to look deeper.

Re: bluetooth speakers connecting but not working
According to this site, after the killall pulseaudio, they say to deactivate bluetooth then activate it again and all should be good.
I hope that helps.

Once the headset connects, right click on the headset in blueman and go to audio profile, if it is set to off, go to disconnect. Then right click on the headset and choose any option to reconnect and see if the audio profile has changed to A2DP
apt install blueman

Re: bluetooth speakers connecting but not working
I've tried the procedure suggested by MrEen. Nothing changed.
I installed Blueman.
The JBL speakers appears in the blueman window.
Nothing happens when clicking to audio profile.
Disconnecting .
When trying to reconnect: connexion failed. Keep going on investigation to morrow. For tonight, I go to bed
Thanks a lot for your help

Re: bluetooth speakers connecting but not working
Hello
This should be my last post for this thread.
I feel that nothing has been neither fixed nor understood, but my JBL speakers work tonight.
I can identify nothing out of everything I could have done which could have been determinant to fix the problem.
I'm not even sure the problem is fixed
May be things happened to change a bit when I connected a bluetooth headset, which appeared in the linuxmint audio system management window (I don't know its name) and worked fine. May be too, using blueman as management tool helped, but I'm not sure it is significant. At least not at once. But when the bluetooth headset worked, JBL began to appear fleetingly in the audio management window as well as in pavucontrol window. But at first it wasn't possible to check them with A2DP; only with "unité centrale du casque hfp/hsp"????
And then, in the evening it remainded stable, with A2DP checked. (I have the feeling of being describing a disease evolution...)
I have no clue of what has been effective to fix it.
I have some feeling that using blueman was better than "mint bluetooth manager" but I'm sure of nothing
My feeling is that the linuxmint bluetooth subsystem is neither very stable nor ruggedised. And that things are worse when we link it with audio subsystem... But I'm not an expert, more of a newbie, and I don't manage the combination or environments of ALSA, Pulseaudio and bluetooth architecture and tools...
But should we be expert, just to simply listen to some music on our computer
If yes, it's a kind of a problem
Tell me if I miss something

Re: bluetooth speakers connecting but not working
Hi getaway. I'm happy to hear your sound is working again. It is not uncommon to rather mysteriously solve itself, unfortunately.
Hopefully, this won't happen again.
Bonne chance!

Hi
This was the first result when googling a problem I had with a Bluetooth device, and it isn't terribly old so I'll post my situation too.
I tried to connect a Bluetooth audio sink using the Bluetooth manager that came with a fresh install of Linux Mint 19 with Cinnamon. The device would show up and connect, but disconnect in a moment, and it didn't show up in audio settings. Having read the thread and already having

Hi grimripper, and welcome to the forum.
Thanks for adding your fix to this thread. I am certain it will help others in the future.

Re: (solved?)bluetooth speakers connecting but not working
Today i faced problems with bluetooth paring at LM 19.
After reserach a bit, I figured out a way to use heaset but i dont't really know if its solved ( see at end my question)
So, i decied to post here...
***
A bref history of my trials...
I'm using mouse M557 bluetooth normally since LM 18 and with LM 19 it worked fine! I bought a wireless headset (Edifier W800BT) and after charge during 2 hours, i turned on...it try to connect without success, actually it connect for a few seconds then disconnect immediatly.
I was using bluberry as bluetooth manager and it didn't show any error message. After read a few topics regarding bluetooth managers i've intalled blueman from this link:(https://community.linuxmint.com/software/view/blueman)
And tryed to connect again, and now i got this error message:
blueman.bluez.errors.DBusFailedError
After read a bit more i found some tips (lost track), one told me to run command "sudo apt install bluetooth"... but it didn't solve!
Then, I did more research, and found two usefull posts at LM Forums viewtopic.php?t=271537 and this one.
After install pulse audio module, using sudo apt-get install pulseaudio-module-bluetooth, i loaded module bluetooth, using pactl load-module module-bluetooth-discover, it returns 26.
Then after open blueman e try to connect it worked - now i'm listening music and recording audio using audacity - goals achived!!!
***
However i dont really know if there is some mistakes or step ahead...
I run Pulse Audio list-sinks and got:
After all this steps I got confused... I don't really know wich module I'm using .... it seams it's <module-bluez5-device>
The command pactl list modules | grep blue shows a few module:
But when i use any of this commands pactl load-module module-bluetooth-discover,pactl load-module module-bluez5-discover or pactl load-module module-bluez5-device returns Failure: Module initialization failed.
Is there anyone willing to explain to me which module I'm using?

Re: (solved?)bluetooth speakers connecting but not working
Hi caioformiga.
The simple answer is: All of them.
The reason for the error is you are instructing them to load when they are already loaded. The error message could be more helpful, I admit.
