DVD reads in Mint17, won't write. Reads & Writes in Win 8

Post by Wiz66 »

I have a Toshiba Satellite C55 laptop. The DVD/CDROM is a TSSTcorp, CDDVDW SU-208FB. When I install a blank DVD, get notification that drive is already mounted and disk spins up and doesn't reject or stop. Also, ran:
55D-B ~ $ inxi -Fxzd

IF: wlan0 state: up mac: <filter>
Drives: HDD Total Size: 750.2GB (35.6% used) 1: id: /dev/sda model: HGST_HTS541075A9 size: 750.2GB
Optical: /dev/sr0 model: N/A rev: N/A dev-links: cdrom
Features: speed: 24x multisession: yes audio: yes dvd: yes rw: cd-r,cd-rw,dvd-r,dvd-ram state: N/A
Partition: ID: / size: 324G used: 249G (82%) fs: ext4 ID: swap-1 size: 10.19GB used: 0.00GB (0%) fs: swap
RAID: No RAID devices detected - /proc/mdstat and md_mod kernel raid module present
Sensors: None detected - is lm-sensors installed and configured?

I suspect a driver problem because the drive will read a DVD. Also, the DVD will read and write in Win 8 with no problem. VLC media player was installed on Mint and Win8..

Appreciate any suggestions to get this working.......

that Windows System works by having an Driver for Everything .. ...
but the Linux System does not have that many Drivers, in fact very few are needed.

so, what you may need to do, is to boot using an Different Kernel,,
and see if the Read / Write issue remains, or is fixed.
- you may need to try more than one kernel, in order to find the one that works.
as it's the Kernel in the Linux System, that makes the difference, when dealing with hardware issues.

Hi Wiz66,

It would help to know more about your system setup. If you run "inxi -Fxzd" and "lsusb" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information.
