Hi Yorkshire, and welcome to the forum.
I have never used Gnome-alsamixer, but it appears to be a GUI front end for alsamixer. In alsamixer you press Alt-F6 to choose which sound card you want to make changes to. Maybe the same for Gnome-alsamixer?
If you still have trouble, paste back the results of typing
Another option is PulseAudio Volume Control (pavucontrol) that I think is worth installing even if the above sorts out your issue.

Thanks guys! QAS Mixer has fixed it.
