Suddenly no sound in 18.3KDE

Post by Jantux » Mon Jul 23, 2018 9:59 am

After i build my new pc i installed my favorite distro Mint 18.3 KDE. Everything worked like a charm out of the box.

Until today? Suddenly i noticed i didn't have any sound anymore.

I did a check in the system-settings in the menu and found in the multimedia the message "the shared library not found"
Possible reasons
. An error occurred during the last KDE upgrade leaving an orphaned control module
. You have old third party modules lying around

As it worked before and suddenly stopped working i suspect it has to do something with a upgrade.

Now googled around an read a lot about this issue with the same soundcard i have Intel PCM - ALC887-VD Analog but to be honest i don't know what to do since pavucontrol also doesn't work or at least can't find the card.

I tried to install another driver from the daily build ... alsa-daily
But it doesn't work.

What i don't understand is if the system sees the card yes or no and what driver i suppose to install?
Or is there a broken In dependency or orphaned control module. If so how to fix this?

Alsamixer works and shows
Card: HDA Intel PCH
Chip: Realtek ALC887-VD

Nothing mute

first thing to do is go to .config/pulse/ delete everything in there. then open terminal and type pulseaudio -k wait about 5 seconds for things to regenerate and try the sound

what was updated and removed?

Thanks, it works.

It happened after the upgrade of ndiswrapper, ndiswrapper-dkms and ndiswraper-utils-1.9.

I noticed that after a while the sound does disappear again and i have to type in pulseaudio -k in the terminal again?
