Hi, so I am not sure if this is a problem with the cheap microphone I got from china (which did get good reviews) or something on the software end, but when I try to record in audacity to test the mic the sound is very high pitched and sped up.. There are all different options under input device, and I have just crossed over from windows (thank the stars, as it may be) so I have no idea what any of this is. I have attached a picture for reference. Some seem to work better, others seem even more sped up or just like static but nothing seemed to work right.
Anyways I just have 2 questions, 1) is there any reason anyone knows of why my recording output is like this that isnt a broken mic? and 2) which one of those numerous options would I want to use - can anyone maybe explain what pulse vs default, analog vs alt analog, etc is?
Any input is appreciated :) Ty for reading

Is your sample rate set correctly. If you are recording at 44100Hz and playing back at a lower rate. It might pay to investigate your settings.

Also, check your "playback speed" (the slider next to the green arrow shown below), it should be 1.00
Well.. nevermind it looks okay on your screenshot. Does it play back other imported audio normally?Re: Recording in audacity sounds like its sped up x10
It does, I just checked. TBH it is probably just a faulty mic, I didn't realize before but when i shake it around a little bit i can hear a rattling from the recording head. I was just unsure if I had a wrong device enabled or something idk. I will try another mic when I can get one.FreedomTruth wrote: ⤴Sun Aug 19, 2018 11:47 pm Also, check your "playback speed" (the slider next to the green arrow shown below), it should be 1.00

......I wonder if I can use the mic from my old laptop, lol. Probably not. But that thing was actually pretty good.

A microphone wouldn't convert sounds to a higher frequency, which is what your description sounds like.
- Try recording without the mic, like line input: does it sound wrong?2) which one of those numerous options would I want to use - can anyone maybe explain what pulse vs default, analog vs alt analog, etc is?
- Try putting the mic thru the speakers w/o audacity - does it sound wrong?
