No audio on Acer c730 Chromebook
I've put my Acer c730 Chromebook in dev mode
Installed sea bios via https://mrchromebox.tech/#fwscript
Booted from USB and installed Linux Mint 18.3 kde debian
There is no audio coming from the builtin speakers or the headphone jack
(Audio works fine on Chrome OS)
The system is update to date (as far as I know)
Is there a driver that I'm able to install?
Do I have to upgrade to Mint 19?
EDIT
This is the output from running "aplay -l" and "inxi -A" in Linux

Re: No audio on Acer c730 Chromebook
Hi RedCMD, and welcome to the forum.
See if the instructions on this page help. You'll have to scroll about half way down to "Audio: Alsa Use Case Manager definitions"
I have read a couple of very similar instructions for audio on Chromebooks running linux, such as this site so it should be pretty safe.

Re: No audio on Acer c730 Chromebook
I followed the instructions on https://erdnaxe.github.io/chromebook-linux/
Audio starting working via turning the volume up and down would play the beeping sounds
for the first 30sec audio sounded a bit funny, but then cleared up nicely
Audio from youtube didn't work, but a restart fixed that
All audio works fine now.
Thx

Re: No audio on Acer c730 Chromebook
I wasn't able to test before
But it doesn't auto change from speakers to headphones when I plug them in
and vice versa with unplugging the headphones and not auto changing back to speakers

Re: No audio on Acer c730 Chromebook
Ok. This might fix that.
In the terminal type
If it is, remove the # in front, save the file, issue
In the terminal type
kdesudo xed /etc/pulse/default.pa
(replace xed with your text editor) and see if this line is commented out like so:
Code: Select all
#load-module module-switch-on-port-available
pulseaudio -k
in the terminal, wait a moment then test.Re: No audio on Acer c730 Chromebook
It was already enabled
Code: Select all
#!/usr/bin/pulseaudio -nF

Re: No audio on Acer c730 Chromebook
Damn. That Chromebook really doesn't want you using linux, does it?
Seeing as that last instruction was for pulseaudio, lets try a purge/reinstall and see if that fixes it. Do these one line at a time:
Normally, I'd do alsa-base along with pulseaudio, but in your case I'm hesitant to add that as I'm not fully aware of what that earlier fix changed. So let's see if this is enough to get you fixed.

Re: No audio on Acer c730 Chromebook
Now theres no audio lol
The speaker icon down the right bottom is gone
Should I follow these instructions again? https://erdnaxe.github.io/chromebook-linux/

Let's try it this way. Do each line one at a time:
Then go to that page and redo that as well.
Sorry for the trouble!

Re: No audio on Acer c730 Chromebook
Try
apt install indicator-sound
Re: No audio on Acer c730 Chromebook
Also, in case you haven't already, a reboot might be in order.
Re: No audio on Acer c730 Chromebook
Didn't do anything
and yea I've been rebooting
I switched headphones and these ones make a really loud buzzing sound when plugging in
Tho on Chrome OS they don't

Re: No audio on Acer c730 Chromebook
Damn! Maybe that's why it wasn't detecting the change before.
I'm going to have to think on this for a bit, I'm afraid.

Just a small list of current issues
Speaker icon missing
Volume shortcuts don't work
Headphone makes buzzing noise when plugging in

Re: No audio on Acer c730 Chromebook
The only suggestion at the moment is delete the files (not folders if there are any) from
That might fix everything. And it might fix nothing.
I'll keep thinking.
~/.config/pulse/
then issue pulseaudio -k

Man Chromebooks are a pain, can be really hard to get anything working on them
Did you know that Chrome OS logs how many times you've power washed the device
