[SOLVED] Xplayer problem

Post by Condorman »

Hi folks. I was messing about with my new install of Mint 19 Cinnamon 64 bit earlier, and needed to get Wine running for one of my favourite games. Had a bit of fun there, and it turned out I needed 32 bit compatibility which I duly installed (Mesa 32 bit packages). After this, the game runs brilliantly. Sweet!

However it appears to have norked up Xplayer. I immediately noticed my video thumbnail previews in Nemo disappeared, being replaced with a stock video icon instead. At first I didn't think the issues were linked but I have come to realise they are. I removed Xplayer and installed MPV player, after which my thumbnails restored themselves.

I've now tried to reinstall Xplayer but the bugs are back. Chiefly the thumbnails are gone, but video playback is all neon red and yellow with Xplayer, as if the codecs aren't installed properly or something's wrong with my video drivers. My system deets are below. No laughing at my dated (but reliable) PC:

I should add that MPV player and VLC seemingly run fine. Thanks in advance for any help here. :-)

Re: Xplayer problem

Solved. Like an idiot I'd installed the package mesa-va-drivers and this messed up the playback. All good now I've removed the package. :)

Condorman, I'd like to know *why* you're "like an idiot" for doing this. My Linux Mint 19 system came pre-installed with the mesa-va-drivers package. If it's such a dumb thing to do, why would it be there by default? Btw, thanks for posting this, or I'd NEVER have figured out why xplayer was displaying my movies in red and yellow.
