Thing I have tried: ALSAmixer, pavucontrol, editing .asoundrc, various ALSA settings/hacks, various installations/upgrades/reinstalls, and a few other command line tutorials, which unfortunately I did not document as I went. As far as I know I reverted everything back after I had attempted a change.
In ALSAMixer, my Intel internal audio is available, but the Nvidia device seems to be disabled or suspended:
I saw this in pacmd, but can't seem to change the values to no:

Could someone please help me to revive my HDMI sound output?
