Youtube and web video choppy after upgrade

Post by drseitan »

I've upgraded to the latest edition of Mint and the video playback on a browser is very, very choppy. Before the upgrade, everything was fine, so I'm guessing it's not because of the graphics drivers. Also, I don't have any problem playing local videos. I've tried both firefox and chromium, as well as different websites (youtube, twitter, etc.), and the problem persists. Lowering the video resolution does nothing. Sometimes I can get one video playing after a reboot but then it goes back to being choppy. Since I'm also having problems with the splash screen (different topic), I'm considering going back to Mint 18.
I have a HP Omen with an i7 processor and a Geforce, which can play 1080p videos easily, so I find this very odd.
Any ideias?

Might be upgrade woes. First try a clean installation of Mint 19.

I ended up going back to 18.3, which works fine. For some reason, I can't upgrade to 19 without having loads of issues.
