Bluetooth Headphones stuttering, skipping, breaking up. (other bt speaker and earbud work)

Post by teamspoad »

PROBLEM: Headphones stutter or skip in LM19

OS: Linux Mint 19 with cinnamon (dual boot w/win10 on higher end sony vaio laptop - 64bit - 8gbram)
HEADPHONES: Galacticon HP (bt with aux, phone support, A2DP) - Cheap greek brand,

WHY I KNOW IT'S A LM19 BLUETOOTH ISSUE:
---I've returned the headphones and results are the same.
---No issues with this machine using via aux cable.
---I've had them working temporarily on LM19 (numerous tutorial settings changes), but after reboot or bt reconnection, the problem persists, even if attempting same settings change that I thought may have fixed it the 1st time.
---They work on the same machine, with same hardware on Windows 10 (no tweeking needed)
---They work with my android phone
---Bose bt speaker (A2DP) and bt earpiece (HSP) both work flawlessly with same LM19 (no tweeking).

TRIED and WORKED TEMPORARILY:

---https://freedompenguin.com/articles/how ... hones-fix/ THIS INVOLVES USING "BLUEMAN" worked 1st time. couldn't recreate with reinstall.
---changing setting in pulse audio control (from a2dp to hsp, to off and back on, to different settings and button pushings)
---1st attemp from tutorial which I can't remember. point being, they have worked at least 3 times, and continued to fail.

TRIED and didn't work:
---Turning off and back on with bluetooth manager
---Reinstalling pulseaudio

WOULD LIKE TO TRY (from research) but can't figure out how to change settings:
---realtime
---pacmd priority 0.
---adjusting latency, but I don't have a clue about how or why

NOTE: This has been tested with installed LM19 and a linux live LM19. Similar results in all tests.

I would try

Code: Select all

echo "options iwlwifi bt_coex_active=N" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/iwl-bt.conf
sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi
sudo modprobe iwlwifi
See if it is any better

Incase it is useful, I just want to throw in my experience in a different situation with the same results. Headphones were working perfectly until the laptop power off ungracefully, without a shutdown. After that, stuttering for 6 seconds, followed by 9 seconds clear, then 6 seconds stuttering...repeating. I suspected it was related to the sudden power loss, but could not find the cause so I used Timeshift to go back to the day before and the problem was resolved. So, for those who had perfectly working bluetooth which then inexplicably degraded, try rolling back your system to a kinder, gentler era with Timeshift.
