OK, but how do I identify "anything that has the slightest connection to banshee" (sorry for the basic question). Thanks again.

identify "anything that has the slightest connection to banshee"

I had to be a bit vague as I don't have banshee installed and had very little time for Mint last week
Make a file called Find (or whatever you want), make it executable and put it in
Content below
This will let you search for both file name and file content in an easy way
Use it to search for banshee from a right click both file name an contains
The script

Code: Select all

    exec gnome-search-tool --hidden --allmounts --contains=

As you see it uses a built in tool :)
I think you should purge banshee before the search and search the entire file system and then remove all that you find
It's most likely some setting in home, but it might be something elsewhere
Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

"The System Monitor shows the process as running, and its using 50% of my CPU, with a waiting channel as 0."

Such an advanced effect is likely to be produced by PulseAudio.

Remove the evil, and all problems may disappear.

It might be reasonable to install another Mint in dual boot,
and make experiments there.
