Low volume (general)

Hi guys,

I have a low volume on my Mint, not sure if it can be increased ? All settings are maxed out, but it's louder in Windows (I have dual boot so I can compare). I have Intel sound card. Would anyone have any suggestions ?

Hi birkopf.

In the terminal run alsamixer. When it opens, you may need to press F6 to select the appropriate sound card. Make sure Master, PCM and whatever you're listening via, such as Headphones, Line Out, Speaker, etc. are all up to the top. Use your right/left arrow keys to select columns and the up arrow key to raise the level.

Install pavucontrol and try it with that. You should be able to set the volume beyond 100 %.

Pjotr's suggestion is what I would have said as well. You can increase to I believe 153%, but if you then use certain volume controls afterwards, the max will drop back down to 100%

Also, your audio setup may be a factor. For example if you're using a Surround Sound setup, but only feeding it a stereo signal, that could explain the difference between Linux and Windows.

the first ladspa SC1 compressed audio <<< good default

now test it on youtube and switch between modes to see which one you like and you can make that default

Many thanks could you let me k ów in a bit more detail what it (this script) does exactly and if needed how can I revert this to starting point?
