Re: Sound Not Working only dummy output

Post by vandamme »

I have an Inspiron 570 And I'm having a similar problem. It plays digital things just fine (system sounds, music files playback) but line in and mic in don't work. Yet the VU meter shows input to the line in. (I'm trying to record from a VCR output.) So the input stream is not getting to the output. I fooled with mixer settings for an hour or so ...

Hi xsilvapt, and welcome to the forum.

Try this first in the terminal:

Code: Select all

apt install --reinstall alsa-base alsa-utils pulseaudio linux-sound-base libasound2
Reboot when done. If still Dummy Output, let see a broader output of dmesg with this:

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep -C1 -E 'ALSA|HDA|sof|HDMI|snd[_-]|sound|hda.codec|hda.intel'
Good luck.

vandamme, please start a new thread for your issue, as it's not related to the issue this thread is about. Include the output from the following terminal commands: inxi -Fxz, aplay -l, dmesg | grep snd and pacmd list-cards. Thanks
