Set default input[recording] device persistant

Post by shockedquartz »

Hello all.
Mint 19.3.
I have headphones and a webcam I rarely use.
I'd like to set the default input device to the headphones instead the OS defaults to the webcam which I have to always change back.

How can I make the headphones the persistent default input device?

Thanks for any help :)

Hi shockedquartz.

There are a few ways to accomplish this. The easiest is to run PulseAudio Volume Control (pavucontrol) and change the webcam's Profile to Off on the Configuration tab.

Just as easy, on the Input Devices tab, click on the check mark next to the Headphone Mic Port so that it is highlighted. That should make it the default input device as long as it stays connected.

It can also be done in a configuration file. If you want to go that route, I'd need to see the output of pacmd list-cards

Thank you *AGAIN*!

That's good enough for me. I rarely use the webcam. I can just turn the profile back on when I use it.
