[Solved] Built-in microphone doesn't work after the system goes to sleep

Post by Tobari »

Hello guys,

I hope you are well!

I'm running into a minor issue. You recently helped me fixing my mic.

It works fine before I close the laptop. After the system goes to sleep, the mic doesn't work. The 'input devices' tab of pulse shows that "microphone (plugged in)" is selected instead of "internal microphone (unplugged)."

If the computer gets to sleep various times in a day, the mic setting changes only the first time it gets to sleep. Then I manually set it back to normal and it doesn't change for the day anymore.

The distrib is Linux Mint 19.3, 64 bit.

If you have any idea, I'm all ears :)

Sleep (suspend) is a hit and miss issue in Linux. My laptop, for instance, could not resume from sleep, so I disabled it altogether.

Hope you will find a solution, anyway.

Thanks.

I assume it "sleeps" when I physically close the laptop, since it is in standby after I re-open it (i.e. the screen is black and I have to press the power key).

But I'm not sure my assumption is correct.

Hi again, Tobari! :D

See if just running pulseaudio -k in the terminal is enough to "fix" this.

Hi again, MrEen! Nice to see you again.

It kind of fixed it: the mic setting doesn't change because of "sleep" anymore. However, when the system starts, it's not set on "internal microphone" anymore.

We can make that a permanent default if you like. Just add this to the end of /etc/pulse/default.pa:

Code: Select all

set-source-port 1 analog-input-internal-mic
What we did in the other thread doesn't survive a reboot, but this one will.

To edit the file, use xed admin:///etc/pulse/default.pa

That even fixed the microphone that wasn't working on telegram (while it was working on zoom, skype, messenger, and microphone testing websites).

It's wonderful
