Postby neonlinux » Mon Sep 14, 2009 4:37 am

i have spent enough time reading posts about no sound using headphones...

i cannot use the command inxi -A though...
which i noticed in one of the posts ...

mint@mint ~ $ sudo inxi -A
sudo: inxi: command not found

i can hear a sound .. when i click on test in the sound preferences..
i selected alsa .. while clicking on test i can hear like a phone ringing or buzzing sound...
so i assume that sound is ok

also OSS .. HDA Intel ALC880 OSS has the same constant sound when clicking test...

if i plug in my headphones i cannot hear any sound..
i could not find the surround control to adjust any volume level for headphones also...

i have used unetbootlin ... taking a really long time to download and have it setup Mint 6 main
gnome i am guessing ...

i have downloaded Mint 7 main .. iso .. i will try this one too using unetbootlin...

i wish to continue booting from the usb in the future...

i have already done this with Slax too... (and Puppy but prefer Slax over xpud as well.. )

i recall that Puppy will allow a user to save data and so on .. on the partition

by using the usb boot method...

can i save settings? can i download and install additional drivers or programs?
and save these settings for the next boot?

or do i need to adjust the settings every time i boot from the usb...

at this time .. i am not looking to install on my hard disk yet...
since the response time via using the usb is satisfying enough...

much faster than previous live-cd distros...

also i am curious .. as the what the difference would be from mint 6 to mint 7 using usb method...

i also found some chinese fonts .. need to find the link again...
.tgz and .deb

not Wang ..nor Adobe.. either...

i think this is a cool distro.. happy with it so far...
also if there can be no persistent saving of settings
then i have to re-enter my static ip info each time... too...
i am used to this .. but just wonder if i can save the settings

thank for any feedback..

really enjoyed reading one post...

got an answer and solution in hour from a community .. goodbye Micro$oft .. he he he

in the past i have noticed that sound has usually been the headache set up for me...

from vector.. mepis.. through many .. before...

thanks !!

Now i changed to OSS

now i can hear faint sound through Firefox playing a flash game...

but nothing through headphones...

(at least i think i have changed to OSS since that is what i selected )

i recall reading a post about "loud sound from OSS4 ...."
so i guess OSS4 is different from the OSS in Sound Preferences?

QUOTE: "Now i changed to OSS"

Could you please explain us how you made such a radical change?

Did you really install OSS4, or you are now using ALSA emulation of OSS?

In a word, USB audio devices might be problematic with OSS4:
a few are supported, Logitech and something else.
iMic USB is not supported, for example.
