Codex for Stand alone DVD Players

Post by OldMike » Sun Sep 20, 2009 10:22 pm

I am using Download Helper in Firefox and would like someone who is successfully converting flash videos to the correct format(s) for playing CD's and DVD's on a home stand alone DVD player. I need the specific choices in the "configure" conversion choices section of Download Helper. I have received some help from the forums but no specfic codex choices. The number of combinations of choices is large and any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Michael.

The best tool for the purpose is likely to be FFmpeg.

Download that flv, then convert it with FFmpeg.

If you want to have the best FFmpeg available, you can compile the latest version:
HOWTO: Install and use the latest FFmpeg and x264

The exact options, you may find in this way.
Type on Terminal:

man ffmpeg

The option -sameq (same video quality) was always good for me.

The best place to ask questions about FFmpeg seems to be "Ubuntu Multimedia Production Forum".

EDIT: some examples of FFmpeg usage are here:
Linux by Example: extract audio from video or online stream ... ne-stream/
