Lost sound for no apparant reason

Postby linuxjogger » Tue Sep 22, 2009 3:25 pm

Hi all

Been using Mint 7 for a while now with no problems. Yesterday I lost all sound. Only done the usual updates and not installed anything new for a few weeks. Have checked mixer settings, speakers working and the obvious stuff but as linux newbie
I'm stuck.

PS I have sound in xp in virtualbox

Any ideas guys ?

Thanx

Mark

An interesting idea here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/201518
QUOTE:
My sound stop working with the linux kernel 2.6.27-7-generic, BUT here's a quick FIX:

sudo killall pulseaudio
sudo alsa force-reload

and them go to System>Preferences>Sound and change everything to ALSA

;-)

P.S.: PulseAudio sucks!
End of QUOTE

If it does not help, you may try a radical solution:

QOUTE: "Only done the usual updates"

This is exactly how it happens

Hey IGORZWX

Your my Hero of the day !!!!!!!

Your advice sorted it. Thanks to all the guys who gave their time to reply. That's what I like about Mint, friendly support.

Sound back and John Lee Hooker helping me with my office paperwork.

Thanks again all

Mark
