Mint 19.3 No sound

Post by groundzer0 »

We have an old Dell netbook so I decided to make the big switch from Windows 7 to Linux. I installed Mint 19.3 Tricia Xfce on this computer and found out that it has no sound. Actually, it does produce sound when you play audio--a continuous popping sound. For the former problem, I found the solution here.

However, I'm left with the no sound problem. This problem occurs for both speakers and earphones. I tried following the other posts but none of them worked.

Here are the outputs for the ff:

Re: Mint 19.3 No sound

Post by MrEen »

Hi groundzer0, and welcome to the forum.

Let's see if this gets the sound working:

Code: Select all

sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/sound-fix.conf <<<'options snd-hda-intel model=mono-speakers'
Reboot after running that and test the sound.

The description for that quirk is this:

Code: Select all

Subwoofer and headset fixupes for Dell Inspiron
If that doesn't help, run this one and paste the output:

Code: Select all

curl https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/raw/master/src/utils/pa-info?inline=false | bash | nc termbin.com 9999
The last line of output will have a URL pointing to your sound setup. Hopefully we'll spot the source of the issue there.
