Audio distortion on my speaker

Post by celoman »

My computer's audio is randomly distorted to varying degrees, sometimes a month goes by with no problem and other times no matter how hard you restart it, it keeps happening for hours

The next time it gets bad, try deleting the files in /home/YourUserName/.config/pulse then run pulseaudio -k in the terminal.

I have been trying the solution and it works, the bad thing is that when I do it I can no longer regulate the volume, the distortion continues to occur often

Okay, run this next time the distortion is present and paste the output:

Code: Select all

curl https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/raw/master/src/utils/pa-info?inline=false | bash | nc termbin.com 9999
The last line of output will have a URL pointing to your sound setup. Pasting that URL is all I need.

That output shows me two things we should check. First, speech-dispatcher was running, which sometimes causes issue and may be source of your troubles. Second, it also shows HDMI output when I wasn't expecting that. Is your speaker connected via HDMI/DP?

Yes, my speaker is connected by HDMI, that is because I am using a TV to use my computer, so I use the television speaker

Okay, let's see if it's speech-dispatcher causing the trouble. Follow the steps in this post then reboot and wait to see if the issue returns:

I find this problem:

the first command you send is

Code: Select all

killall speech-dispatcher
but it gives me this output in which it says the process cannot be found:

Code: Select all

alex@GNU-PC:~$ LC_ALL=C killall speech-dispatcher
speech-dispatcher: no process found

I do not know if i am allowed to post my problem ... it is more or less the same problem.
Whenever the Dell 390 Optiplex feels like it he starts dis forming the sound, it can be a YouTube thing but also a CD or a film from Fil net that comes via the Apple box. We do not have HDMI on the old Denon amplifier so we connect from Samsung TV to Denon Amp with a optic cable. We connect the Dell via HDMI to the TV.
The Dell has a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 so we can use 2 displays, the Dell has onboard vid and audio.
We do not use the speech option i think, for some time the system refused to install the new driver, since yesterday it did. I was hopeful but Bob Ross sounds like he is dying the dis forming is real bad. Also he started complaining just ago about a failure with OpenGL settings.
I think the HDMI audio is not working with the Denon AVR 2106 because it has no HDMI or USB.
I am not really handy with the Linux system so spare me please but i am willing to do whatever is necessary to fix this problem ...

Many thanks
