Hypnotix now only has 83 channels?

Post by Lessss »

Hypnotix now only has 83 channels? Mint 20.1 XFCE v 1.5 license 3.29

Setting up a machine for a friend. Hypnotix only has 83 channels while the one on my machine beside it has more - - ok wait, nope, my machines channels have been trimmed back as well. Ok is this more fallout from the IPTV Xtream Codes provider raid? Or was the list full of illegal channels that had to be trimmed, or is this a glitch?

I confirm, only 83 channels for several hours now.
Previously, the number of channels varied around three hundred.
I don't know what it depends on.

Pity. They all seem to be labelled wrong as well with some asinine statement like "say thank you to IPTV-org! message

Okay, the author of the channel list was offended by those who made his forks, but he also gave LinuxMint permission for Hypnotix, but he deprived everyone of the "sweet".

Same here, but I was able to pull the the ~/home/<user>/.hypnotix/providers/freeiptv out of my Timeshift backup and chmod it to read-only (to prevent it from being over written). So for now it still working for me

[solved] Hypnotix is bleeding out.....??

Post by Glamtrains »

I just reinstalled Mint Cinnamon Ulyssa and found that a few thousand Hypnotix stations are just gone, just one left per heading. There used to be a total of well over 3,000 and now only 84 left. I live in South Africa, not aware of country restrictions.

Any clues??

I might get in trouble for posting this so they can delete it if it's a problem.

Until LM gets this sorted out you can add .m3u playlists to Hypnotix from other sources like this one:
https://github.com/iptv-org/iptv (scroll down to Usage)
But iptv-org appears to be one of the forks that Free-IPTV is mad at. I don't know how long it will be available.

Thanks a million, as you can see from my signature, I do need something to pass the time with. Instead of trying to get GS Connect to work, entirely a different problem but on the same day. :D

Hypnotix was a great idea on Mint; one reason for which I update my system.
But everything went well for two or three days, until all stations were automatically removed, as people already commented.

Is there a way to get back to the initial configuration?, or...
Would someone post the original file so that we can have the program 'back' ?

It is a pity that a long-awaited software is subject to the mood of its developer, affecting all honest users.

sad....

If your using timeshift, should be easy to get the file out of the snapshot, replace it and make it read-only so it can't be overwritten. Its what I have done, works perfect till Clem and team, get it fixed

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but the way I understand it the problem is the original default configuration because it downloads a .m3u file, which is no longer good, from github .

As far as I know if you don't have a timeshift or other backup then your only alternative is to use another .m3u file like I posted earlier:

Apparently Clem and the maintainer of Free-IPTV are working out a solution, give it some time.

Hmm, I guess Hypnotix will need another iptv source...

As just an ordinary Linux Mint user who has recently viewed the GitHub issue thread on this, I would strongly advise that Clem and the Mint team drop Hypnotix altogether as a pre-installed app on Mint. The idea had merit, but the drama involved with the maintainers of that project and Free-IPTV are not exemplary nor worthy of the free and open source community. It's drama that the Linux Mint community doesn't need to be involved with.

When I updated today there was a new version of Hypnotix.
The default m3u playlist was changed.
Now it uses https://github.com/Free-TV/IPTV

I like the new list. A well curated list of quality channels. I just hope they add some of the major US broadcast networks at some point.

I don't think Free-IPTV can take iptv-org down. It also seems that this person has no idea how Github even works. It's actually good that iptv-org forked the repo because the person behind Free-IPTV seems to be quite a loose cannon. Still, I'd advise to save the iptv-org sender list also locally.

The new Hypnotix default list is pretty useless for international audience.

Try these from here: https://github.com/iptv-restream/iptv-c ... ree/master

Usage

To watch IPTV you just need to paste this link https://iptv-org.github.io/iptv/index.m3u to any player with support M3U-playlists.

VLC Network Panel

Also you can instead use one of these playlists:

https://iptv-org.github.io/iptv/index.country.m3u (grouped by country)
https://iptv-org.github.io/iptv/index.category.m3u (grouped by category)
https://iptv-org.github.io/iptv/index.language.m3u (grouped by language)
Locked

Return to “Sound”
