I have a Sound Blaster Audigy card installed, and I have a DAC that I basically use as a splitter for speakers and headphones. In the Sound Settings panel, I've noticed the existence of a new device after sound fails that is *not* there on initial boot: "Headphones Sound Core3D". I'm usually just using the "Line Out Sound Core3D" device, which is still there when the sound goes out.
