done
on in the first playback tab I see the vumeter bar of the reproduced audio moving, in the third "output" tab I see the vumeter moving. Ditto for the inputs tab. In the configuration tab I don't see any cards I read "no card available"

I still have no sound

No audio after a June 3rd update

Using a Timeshift restore from before the update to selectively load updates.
All updates were OK up to;-

libx11, nvidia-settings and libnvidia 460.80

Selective loading eliminated libx11 and nvidia-settings.

The problem resolved to the libnvidia 450.119.03 being updated to 460.80.

By keeping libnvidia 450.119.03 all sound problems went away.

Code: Select all

Mch:
Distro: Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia
Kernel: 5.4.0-74-generic x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: MATE

Desktop Mobo: Micro-Star model: B450I GAMING PLUS AC (MS-7A40)

CPU:
  AMD Ryzen 5 3600

Graphics:
  GPU 0 GeForce GTX 1650
  Device-1: NVIDIA driver: nvidia v: 450.119.03
  Display: x11 server: X.org 1.20.8 driver: nvidia

Audio:
  Device-1: NVIDIA driver: snd_hda_intel
  Device-2: AMD driver: snd_hda_intel
  Sound Server: ALSA v: k5.4.0-74-generic
Perhaps I could have tried the 4.15.0-144 Kernel but it was not available on the above mch at the time.

So it could be a problem linked to the 5.4.0-74 kernel and the NVIDIA driver: nvidia v: 460.80,
the 4.15.0-144 Kernel might have worked.

However the above worked for the listed machine & solved the problem.
The Nvidia 460.80 driver was Blacklisted in the Update Manager, view in Update Manager > Preferences.

Now we will try the next Nvidia driver update, but this time we will create a Timeshift snapshot just before installing the driver!

Edit: added some extra points at end of post
