Trying to install xmbc

Hi. Ive done everything on this website: http://xbmc.org/wiki/?title=HOW-TO_comp ... ian/Ubuntu

I want to install xmbc. However when I get to this part:

Configure

$ ./bootstrap
$ ./configure

If you wish to use supported system libraries do this instead.

$ ./configure --enable-external-libraries

All the above commands get a bash error message. Does anyone know what will work?

-and why cant there just be a .deb for the thing instead of having to type 75 zillion incomprehensible commands into the terminal? :)

Just enable these repos in Synaptic, reload, install, done ! . . . :)
