SoundBlaster G5 USB and Linux Mint Cinn 20.1

Post by Davfor7 »

Hello all. This problem I have seems to be one that people like me have a Sound Blaster external USB sound card and the microphone not showing up in the GUI audio options. Just the Digital Input and Line In but no Microphone. Seems this has been a problem for a long long time with no fix for years. I did run across a CLI line that does work but have to make it a script to run at Startup. But I don't know how to do that. Still a novice on Linux. Here is some info of my system:

The command used to make the Microphone work is this one:

Code: Select all

amixer -c 1 sset 'PCM Capture Source' 'External Mic'

What are the steps to have this run at Startup?

What does PulseAudio volume control show?

If you don't have it installed, try it.

Alsa loads by default. Does the Alsa Mixer show it?

One thing I would suggest, create a partition as a 50G partition as /. Partition the rest as /Home. IF the system fails, reinstall and use the exact same username and all your 'stuff' comes back to you.
