no sound hdmi output mint 20.2

Post by quimcu »

Hello, I have mint cinnamon 20.2 64 bits installed, I have an asus b-560-i motherboard connected to a TV via the hdmi port. The only device I get in the sound-out configuration is "digital output (S / -PDIF) internal audio". I don't get any sound.
If anyone can help me, thank you very much.

I've been looking at what you told me and nothing. I still have no sound and no hdmi output appears. i have checked alsamixer and pavucontrol.
I think it is a matter of card drivers.
Thank you.

It took me quite a while to get mine going on Dell XPS. There seems to be no one cause. I have kernel 5.6 locked in only for the purpose of using its Soundwire feature. My main kernel is 5.11.
Have you seen this one? https://itsfoss.com/fix-sound-ubuntu-1304-quick-tip/
Mint is Ubuntu in many ways.

I assume that you have checked your bios, turned the sound there off and on etc.

There are some sound gurus at Mint but they seem to be on vacation.

Hello stevengarland,
I have been testing what it says in the link and I still have no sound on the tv. The hdmi output does not appear. If I connect headphones then through the headphones if there is sound.
Thanks a lot.

Maybe you solved this already? If not, dealing with the obvious, is your HDMI cable good? They do fail.

I have the same issue with my Linux Mint 20.2 system. Have tried all the remedies listed here and nothing works - still no sound. I have posted the issue as well, before I saw this one, under jimFrog.

The link below is to an extremely long solution to my sound problem a few months ago. It is essentially locking in kernel 5.6 in order to use its built in SoundWire. My controlling kernel now is 5.11, but the sound is via 5.6. After doing all this I am sticking with it.

Hello,
I still do not solve the problem.
I have tried with other cables and I have tried it with windows 10 (which does work).
I have tried this "viewtopic.php?f=49&t=339927" and nothing.
Thank you

I’ve using Mint for years. Just installed the newest distro. Initially had sound. Then after updates and upgrades after install, no sound. There was no HDMI device available is pulse. After trying normal terminal codes…nothing worked. Kees in mind, pulseaudio is install. And my speaker icon was missing from panel.

This fixed it:
-open terminal
-type sudo apt install pulseaudio* (press enter)
Do NOT forget the “wildcard” * at the end
-apt install like 27mb of drivers and pulseaudio software. After installed, in terminal,
-sudo reboot -h now (press enter)
When Mint reboots, go to sound preference and make sure your hardware and output device is HDMI (whatever) and all should good to go. Let me know how this works for your guys.
