How to make sound work after boot? --SOLVED--

Post by tgibb »

Somewhere around the update from the 5.4.0-84 and -89 kernels the sound stopped working.
I can get the sound to work on my Dell Latitude E6400 by poking around with various settings. But it does not stick with a reboot or restart.
Procedure to start the sound working:
  • Open Sound Preferences
Change Profile to anything other than what it is
    Change Profile to Analog Stereo
Bingo! the sound starts working...

AH HA! (While it is unlikely that anyone else is stupid enough to have this problem, I will post this anyway. )
While looking at the kernels to make this post, I discovered that I had somehow installed TWO kernels! When I removed the older one the sound started working after reboot.

Also discovered that this computer is eleven years old and since it still works great...

Thank you developers of Linux Mint!
