I'm quite happy with how audio works in Linux Mint (cinnamon), but some programs, namely video conferencing ones, quite annoyingly mess up the general OS audio settings and especially volumes of other programs.
Do you have any ideas of ways to block a process from modifying settings/volumes and/or creating these virtual combined output devices?
For example, Zoom
a) creates this virtual combined audio device that gets automatically selected
b) lowers audio of other programs outputting audio, so that you can't up their level even in the programs themselves or in the "Applications" control in "Sound Settings".
c) even after switching away from that combined audio device, some programs continue to be really low volume, while others might pretty much blast your ears off. And no, this combined device doesn't seem strictly required, because after switching away from it, Zoom still manages to get audio input from mic and shared windows.
