No sound on dell chromebook 3180. Mint version 20 cinnamon
I do not have any audio out of the internal speakers or headphone jack on my Dell Chromebook 11 3180, I've tried some methods for the 3120 but it didn't work.

Re: No sound on dell chromebook 3180. Mint version 20 cinnamon
It's a while back since I stuck Mint on a Chromebook, but at the time I needed to use a mainline kernel and apply some tweaks nicked from Gallium OS to get sound to work.
What kernel are you running - if the mint default, first thing I'd try is some of the later kernels.

Hello n00blinuxuser,
smurphos gave you the tip to try a later kernel, which you can do in the update manager>view>linux kernels with the latest 5.13 kernel. Then reboot with finger crossed If that doesn't help (and I've just read the thread for the 3120), i have no other idea, what could be done.

It did detect the audio device but there's no sound through headphones or internal speakers, it's not muted
Re: No sound on dell chromebook 3180. Mint version 20 cinnamon
No, you should take the latest 5.13 kernel. Did you do that? When you are in the update manger > view > linux kernel you see on the left side the kernel series availiable: 5.4, 5.8, 5.11 and 5.13. Click on 5.13 and then click on the top one and choose install. Then reboot.Should I try the latest 5.4?
If you installed the latest 5.13 kernel and nothing changed after the reboot, please go through the points on the following website:

Are you trying with a variety of different kernels, having applied those tweaks? To be honest it took me about a week of trial and error to get stuff working on my machine properly when I did it and unfortunately that machine is now back on ChromeOS so I can't hunt through it to get some more clues as to all the tweaks I needed to apply (and I didn't take notes). Getting everything working on a Chromebook with a Linux other than GalliumOS is not for the faint-hearted.
